Kids are back in school and fall season is just about to start. The weather is still hot and humid, so in many way in Camden County it feels as if fall is still far away.

We hope you too had a long and relaxing Labor Day weekend and that you had an opportunity to visit the Kingsland Catfish festival. But now, it’s time to look ahead.

Starry Nights with Michael Hulett

This is the final performance of the 2011 Starry Nights free concert series for the year. Enjoy the heartfelt soulful vocals and sax tunes of musician Michael Hulett who will be performing on stage. Michael Hulett offers a mix of classic and modern jazz, R&B, soul and rock/pop tunes. Bring a chair or a blanket, some snacks, and your friends to enjoy a relaxing evening on the river.

Pooch Plunge

Give your dog a special treat and a way to escape the heat and cool off. Come to St. Marys Aquatic Center for the Pooch Plunge — a day of fun for both dogs and owners. On Sunday, September 11 from 3:00-5:30 PM your dogs can come and play at the St. Marys Aquatic Center. Dogs who want to participate and play can’t be aggressive — we are sure the rule applies to owners as well. They also need to be kept on a leash, the dogs that is. Dogs are free – but owners pay $3.20, or vice versa. Why the odd admission fee? That mystery remains. Call 912-673-8118 for more information.

St Marys Community Market

This market takes place at the waterfront in downtown St Marys on Saturdays from 9 am – 1 pm.  Find local produce, home made bread, arts and crafts items, flowers and much more.

This season there are several opportunities to run a 5K in Camden county to stay in shape, or just for fun.

APRIL 2011
First up, on April 9, 2011, “The Miracle League of Camden County 1st Annual Bunny Hop 5K”. Head to Tribune & Georgian parking lot to meet up at 7 am. Registration is $15 if you register before March 26, after that it’s $20. Kids 1 mile fun run $10.

The Miracle League is raising money to build a baseball field with a rubberized surface to allow children with special needs to participate in the game. The PSA has donated a field next to Lion’s Park, Kingsland, to become ” Justin’s Miracle Field” in memory of Justin Norris who passed away in December 2009. There are over 1000 kids in Southeast Georgia and Florida with special needs who will benefit from this field. There will also be a huge community yard sale on this day before the Bunny Hop!

Your entry to the 5K or mile fun run will help this dream come true!

The organization is also having a yard sale at Howard Peeples Park where you can help donate items to raise money for the field on April 2nd, 2011 from 7 am-2 pm.

In many places around the country, it’s a tradition to bring in the New Year with a cleansing dip in ice cold water. In St Marys, we have our own version of the Polar Bear Plunge.
Here you can take trip down the big slide at the St. Marys Aquatic Center (301 Herb Bauer Drive), on Saturday, January 8th noon to 2 PM. St Marys Aquatic Center says that admission is free to all who dare to brave the cold temperatures. By the way, the temperature on Saturday is going to be somewhere around 60 F – so really, how brave do you need to be?

Attack Dance Team Swimsuit Calendar
The Jacksonville Sharks announce the 2010-2011 Attack Dance Team swimsuit calendar will be released on Friday, May 14^th.  The calendars will be available for purchase during the home game against the Dallas Vigilantes.

The calendar begins in June and features the beautiful girls of the Sharks Attack Dance Team.  Each month will feature one dance team member in a stunning swimsuit provided by Aqua East Surf Shop.

The calendars are available for $10 each at the Sharks merchandise stands.  The calendars will be available for purchase beginning at 5:30 pm at Sea Best Field during SharkFest, the pregame party before each and every Sharks home game. Fans can get their calendars signed by the Attack Dance Team after the game on the field during the traditional autograph session.

Please join riders on Saturday  October 10, 2009 at 10am. They will meet at Camden Bicycle Center and be part of the largest Bike Ride in the United States and Canada on behalf of Breast Cancer Research.  The ride is casual, 25 and 10 mile routes will be available. The 10 mile route will explore downtown St Marys GA. and 25 mile route will head toward the Crooked River State Park and back.   Invite a friend to come with you. Don’t forget your helmet!

Learn Tai Chi in the Howard Gilman Waterfront Park at 10 AM on the last Saturday of each month. Everyone welcome and no prior experience needed, and the best thing is – it’s a free event. We’ll meet by the fountain just before the hour and begin at 10 am.

Running enthusiasts of all ages are invited to sign up for the St. Marys Kiwanis July 4 fun runs. Several class categories are open including a children’s event. The fun runs launch the festival in the early morning on July 4. Pre-registration is encouraged for the running events to make check-in smoother. Awards will be given in all categories.

Up The Creek is having its canoe and kayak demo April 11 from 10:00am until 3:00 pm.  The demo will be held 201 Kings Bay Road, Kingsland, on the lake across from Wal-Mart.

Come out to test paddle the area’s best selection of quality kayaks.  Staff will again be on hand to answer questions.  Mark the date now!  If there is a specific kayak or canoe you would like to test, call us at (912) 882-0911.

Also this year, Up The Creek will be teaming up with the North Florida Paddlers Group, who will be helping to man the grills.  Come on out and enjoy a hot dog or hamburger while you test out the kayaks.

On Saturday, January 10th 2009 at 10:00 AM in Downtown Kingsland, the wildcat parade of pride will be held. Everyone is invited to enter in the Wildcat Parade of Pride, participation is free and we are looking for who has the most WILDCAT SPIRIT!? There will be spirit contests and fun for all! Don’t forget to wear your wildcat blue!

The Wildcat parade of pride is a community celebration in honor of the Camden County Wildcats 2008 State Championship win. The parade activities will be on Saturday, January 10th, 2009. The parade line up will start at 9:00am on HWY 17 and the parade activities will begin promptly at 10:00am. We are planning spirit contests for the parade entries that have the most Wildcat pride. Please plan to join us for a fun & festive victory tribute honoring the community’s Camden County Wildcat spirit and pride!!
